RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT
ENGINEERING WITH A CONSCIENCEOn a daily basis, our overall approach is based on a consideration of what tomorrow’s RESPONSIBLE building should be like. ARCHIMEN is constantly thinking about how to build better and more sustainably. We thus take the three aspects of sustainable development into account in all our projects :
- the environmental dimension,
- the social dimension,
- the economic dimension.
BUILDING PROTECTION: SECURITY – SAFETY
The protection of sensitive sites has become a major priority due to the many threats that exist today. ARCHIMEN has invested heavily in this field, taking a global view of risk analysis in the area of security and safety for buildings and their users: controlled access, CCTV monitoring, network security, creation of security perimeters, and various interactions between buildings and users. Our risk analysis and project management interventions are designed for all sites where security and safety are deemed to be sensitive issues.
SMART BUILDINGS – CONNECTED OBJECTS – SMART CITY – ENERGY STORAGEFollowing on from our BIM discussions, ARCHIMEN is also involved in the construction of “smart” buildings, which include assistance to dependent persons, for example, as a key factor in project design. Through experimental projects, we reflect on self-produced energy consumption, which energy storage makes possible. The flexible building: for improved “consumption by the user” Our society is multifaceted and is entering a fourth-generation revolution shaped by the use of digital technology on a massive scale. These two trends have led us to join our architect partners in thinking about how to design buildings whose purposes may change as time goes by: Changing from an office building to housing, rearranging the distribution of different-sized apartments, offering shared, rented hubs for offices or housing… Our role is to rethink the intangible elements of the built environment in order to deliver these flexible options, while guaranteeing that regulations are followed and costs are kept under control.
THE CONCRETE – WOOD COMBINATION
ARCHIMEN has teams with the skills to implement building methods that use wood. These enable us to take on construction projects that combine the benefits of concrete, such as structural endurance and inertia, and wood for its pre-fabrication possibilities, using dry construction methods or solid wood. ARCHIMEN has therefore designed modular wood cores placed on concrete structures, which can be customised to allow delivery within tight deadlines, at a reduced cost.
DRY CONSTRUCTION AND STANDARDISED CONSTRUCTION CONCEPTS
We also explore the modular approach to construction, using wood or other materials, as well as the development of dry construction processes. The gains in terms of quality and time also make this an environmentally friendly approach.
GREENING THE CITY. URBAN AGRICULTURE
ARCHIMEN is interested in making the city a greener place. Green walls, garden terraces and greenhouse cultures have already been part of previous successful projects. Here again, our role will be to provide design elements that enhance architects’ and landscape gardeners’ projects in the areas of water collection management, re-use of water, treatment of seals and plant disease prevention. We have the good fortune to be able to work alongside the LUA (Laboratoire d’Urbanisme Agricole) and share design projects with it. These are amazing opportunities to ask questions about the future of our cities and what the new relationship between town and country should be, without nostalgia. Incorporating agriculture into the changes that the city is projecting across the fields is a tremendous opportunity to rethink the big environmental and energy questions of our era.
